  霧雪籠罩的怪異河岸。四處散落著鋼精和水泥。一棟廢棄的摩天大樓。平坦處仍未完工的公路橋。一座宏大的金屬制的馬的雕像。還有一座列寧的雕塑,他的右手伸展著指向空曠處。這是一個(gè)冰冷、僵化的無(wú)人之境,衰落的往昔在這里與想象中的未來(lái)接壤。人們漫無(wú)目的地穿過(guò)這個(gè)不真實(shí)的世界。原先確定無(wú)疑的事情不再令人確信,親戚朋友都消失了,理想已經(jīng)隨風(fēng)而散。薩莎從國(guó)外返回家鄉(xiāng),她死去的父親曾經(jīng)是這片建筑工地的主人,現(xiàn)在她繼承了這筆遺產(chǎn):一位正在尋找工友的吉爾吉斯斯坦工人;一位前額有塊反著光的紅色皮膚的建筑師;一位曾在莫斯科路障旁與葉利欽比肩站立的導(dǎo)游。他們中的一些人會(huì)莫名其妙地流鼻血。一位年輕的學(xué)生問道,“我們是誰(shuí)?我是誰(shuí)?一切都混亂無(wú)章。”  小阿列克謝?日耳曼用七個(gè)章節(jié),將他祖國(guó)的精神面貌壓縮成一部長(zhǎng)敘述的象征性電影,一場(chǎng)流暢精心設(shè)計(jì)的人與攝影機(jī)之舞。

  Following her mother’s death, manga artist Soriya travels to her ancestral home in Phnom Penh, with hopes of reconnecting with her distant family and using the visit as inspiration for her work. All goes well initially. Renting an apartment in Metta, a rundown Khmer Rouge-era housing complex, her visit to her maternal relatives finds her welcomed with open arms. But Soriya’s waking hours in the apartment and its surroundings are punctuated by terrifying, bloody visions, almost as though she were a conduit for horrors of the past wanting to seep into the present.  Inrasothythep Neth and Sokyou Chea’s blood-chilling psychological horror explores a personal and political past through the present, transforming a characterful space into an insidious environment. Surrounded by modern high-rises, this decrepit structure, with its brutalist architecture and peeling surfaces, is a relic from a dark period in history whose painful memories it has absorbed. In tracing Soriya’s ominous journey back to her roots, Tenement hints at a necessary reckoning with Cambodia’s political past without overplaying its historical dimension. It’s an impressive work from a woefully underrepresented national cinema.
